ఒక్కోసారి తిరిగి తిరిగి మళ్ళీ మొదలుపెట్టిన చోటికే వస్తాం..అలాంటప్పుడు విపరీత భావజాలాలూ,తార్కిక వాదనలకి దూరంగా చందమామ చేతికి అందుతుందని మురిసే పసివాడి గుడ్డి నమ్మకమేదో కావాలనిపిస్తుంది..ఈ పుస్తకం చదవాలనిపించడం అలాంటిదే..లోలోపల్నుంచి అప్పుడో ఎప్పుడో వినపడే సున్నితమైన చిరపరిచిత స్వరాన్ని జాగ్రత్తగా నోరునొక్కేసి,మేకపోతు గాంభీర్యాలుపోయే లోకంలో అచ్చమైన చంటిబిడ్డ నవ్వులా వినిపిస్తుంది హాఫిజ్ కవిత్వం..మనసు కలతపడ్డప్పుడు చదివిన వాళ్ళకి ఓదార్పులా అనిపిస్తుంది..

రూమి తరువాత సూఫీ హృదయాన్ని అద్భుతంగా ఆవిష్కరించిన మరో ఆధ్యాత్మిక గురువు  హాఫిజ్ గురించి చెప్పుకోవాలి..'కవులకే కవి' అని Ralph Waldo Emerson కొనియాడినా,హాఫిజ్ కు సాటిరాగల కవులు లేరని Goethe వ్యాఖ్యానించినా,ఆయన కవిత్వం Nietzsche,Arthur Conan Doyle వంటి దిగ్గజాల ప్రశంసలు పొందినా,క్వీన్ విక్టోరియా సైతం తనకు అవసరమైన సందర్భాల్లో హాఫిజ్ పదాల్ని ఆశ్రయించినా కూడా దురదృష్టవశాత్తూ పశ్చిమ దేశాల్లో హాఫిజ్ గురించి కొద్ది మందికే  తెలుసు అని ఆయన కవిత్వాన్ని అనువదించిన Daniel Ladinsky అంటారు..ఇందులో మొత్తం 60 కవితల్ని H. Wilberforce Clarke అనువాదం 'Divan of Hafiz' నుండి సంగ్రహించారు..హాఫిజ్ కవితలన్నీ ఇద్దరి మధ్య తాత్విక సంభాషణ జరుగుతున్నట్లుగా సాగిపోతాయి..ఆ సంభాషణల్లో ప్రేమకే అగ్రతాంబూలమిచ్చారు..పెర్షియన్ కవిత్వంలో ప్రధానంగా వినిపించే భక్తి,ప్రేమ,శాంతి లాంటి అంశాలే ఈ కవితల్లో కూడా వినిపిస్తాయి..పదాలు అటు ఇటుగా అనిపించినా మళ్ళీ నాకు రుమీని చదువుతున్న భావనే కలిగింది..

The subject tonight is Love
And for tomorrow night as well,
As a matter of fact
I know of no better topic
For us to discuss
Until we all
Die!

Please, Stay near to me—And Hafiz will spin you into Love. అంటూ తన ప్రేమ తన్మయత్వంలో మనల్ని కూడా కలుపుకుంటాడు హాఫిజ్..

ఇందులో అధికశాతం కవితల్లో హాఫిజ్ ఒక భక్తుడిలా కనిపిస్తాడు..కొన్నిచోట్ల దేవుణ్ణి తన తండ్రిలా,యజమానిలా,గురువులా గౌరవంగా సంబోధిస్తే,మరికొన్ని చోట్ల ఆ ప్రక్కనున్న వ్యక్తి,'Clever rascal' అంటూ హాస్యమాడతాడు..కాగా చాలా చోట్ల పాఠకుణ్ణి ఒక మిత్రునిలా,తోటి యాత్రికునిలా/ప్రయాణికునిలా సంబోధిస్తారు..

ఇందులో నాకు నచ్చిన రెండు కవితలు..

Will Beat You Up

Jealousy And most all of your sufferings
Are from believing You know better than God.
 
Of course, Such a special brand of arrogance as that
Always proves disastrous,
And will rip the seams In your caravan tent

Then cordially invite in many species
Of mean biting flies and Strange thoughts—

That will Beat you Up.

Because of Our Wisdom

In many parts of this world water is
Scarce and precious.
People sometimes have to walk
A great distance
Then carry heavy jugs upon their
Heads.
Because of our wisdom, we will travel
Far for love.
All movement is a sign of
Thirst.
Most speaking really says
"I am hungry to know you."
Every desire of your body is holy;
Every desire of your body is
Holy.
Dear one,
Why wait until you are dying
To discover that divine
Truth?

హాఫిజ్ కవిత్వం ఎలా ఉంటుందో హాఫిజ్ మాటల్లోనే...

The verse of Hafiz is a Turkish bath;
The glance of Hafiz is a beatific ocean Bath
Where all can clean their bodies
In the sounds from my flute and mirth-
In the tenderness of my drum's alluring beat.
