టెక్నాలజీ ప్రభావం ఎక్కువగా లేని సమాజానికీ,టెక్నాలజీ నిత్యావసరంగా మారిపోయిన సమాజానికీ మధ్య సంధియుగానికి ప్రత్యక్ష సాక్షులం మనం.ఇది ఒకరకంగా అదృష్టమే అనిపిస్తుంది..ఇటాలో కాల్వినో Six Memos for the Next Millennium అనే పుస్తకంలో ఒకచోట అంటారు,"టెక్నాలజీ ఛాయలు పడని బాల్యాన్ని అనుభవించినవాళ్ళం మేము,ఎంత అదృష్టవంతులమో! "అని.టెక్నాలజీ వలన కలిగే ప్రయోజనాల్నీ,దుష్పరిణామాల్నీ రెండింటినీ బేరీజు వేసి చూడగలిగినవాళ్ళం మనం మాత్రమే..ఈ ఏడాది ప్రచురించిన 'Machines Like Me' అనే పుస్తకంలో బ్రిటిష్ రచయిత Ian Mcewan కాగ్నిటివ్ అబిలిటీస్ ఉన్న హ్యూమనోయిడ్ రోబోట్లని మానవసమాజంలో భాగంగా చేస్తూ ఫ్యూచర్ సొసైటీని చూపించే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు.కానీ ఇదే అంశాన్ని అమెరికన్ సైన్స్ ఫిక్షన్ రచయిత టెడ్ చియాంగ్ తొమ్మిదేళ్ళ క్రితమే,అంటే 2010 లో రాసిన 'The Lifecycle of Software Objects' అనే పుస్తకంలో చర్చించారు.

సైన్స్ ఫిక్షన్ ప్రత్యేకత ఏంటంటే,అది ఫ్యూచర్ సొసైటీస్ ఎలా ఉండబోతున్నాయో ఊహాత్మక విశ్లేషణలు చేస్తూ ఆ పరిస్థితులకు తగ్గట్టు మనల్ని మానసికంగా సిద్ధం చేస్తుంది..గత దశాబ్ద కాలంగా శాస్త్రసాంకేతిక రంగాల్లో వచ్చిన పెనుమార్పులు,మనిషికి అపరిమితమైన సౌకర్యాలతో పాటు అంతులేని ఒంటరితనాన్ని కూడా తోడు తెచ్చిపెట్టాయి..ఈరోజు ఏ మారుమూల ప్రాంతాన్ని చూసినా,ఒక సగటు మనిషికి టీవీలు,మొబైల్ ఫోన్లు,టాబ్లెట్స్ లాంటి ఎలక్ట్రానిక్ గాడ్జెట్స్ సహాయం లేకుండా పూట గడవని పరిస్థితి ఉంది.ఈ క్రమంలో మనుషుల స్థానాన్ని క్రమేపీ యంత్రాలు ఆక్రమించడం మొదలుపెట్టాయి.

ఈ పరిణామాల్ని మార్కెట్ చేసుకునే తలంపుతో,ఒంటరితనం బారిన పడుతున్న మనుషులకు తోడుగా పెంపుడు జంతువులను పోలిన వర్చ్యువల్ పెట్స్ ను తయారుచెయ్యడానికి 'బ్లూ గామా' అనే సంస్థ నడుం బిగిస్తుంది.'All the fun of monkeys, with none of the poop-throwing' పాలసీతో కుక్కలూ,పిల్లులూ,కోతులూ,పాండాలూ మొదలైన జంతువుల్ని పోలిన వర్చ్యువల్ ఆకారాల్ని తయారు చేస్తుంది..ఈ సంస్థలో పనిచేసే అన్నా ఆల్వరాడో,డెరెక్ బ్రూక్స్ అనే ఇద్దరు సైంటిస్టులు AI తో పనిచేసే డిజియంట్స్ అని పిలువబడే డిజిటల్ ఆర్గానిజమ్స్ ను తయారుచేస్తారు.కానీ నిరంతరం మారిపోయే వినియోగదారుల అభిరుచుల్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని ఈ పెంపుడు జంతువుల స్థానంలో మనుషుల్ని పోలిన రోబోట్లను తయారు చెయ్యమని 'బ్లూ గామా' ఆదేశిస్తుంది..ఇలా తయారైన డిజియంట్స్ కాగ్నిటివ్ అబిలిటీస్ కలిగి అచ్చం మనుషుల్లాగే ప్రతిరోజూ కొత్త విషయాలు నేర్చుకుంటూ సైంటిస్టులు శిక్షణలో పెరుగుతూ(evolve) ఉంటాయి..పసికందుల్ని పుట్టుకతో సాకినట్లే మార్కో ,పోలో అనే రెండు పాండా బేర్ డిజియంట్స్ ను డెరెక్ పెంచుతుండగా,జాక్స్ అనే నియో విక్టోరియన్ డిజియంట్ ను అన్నా పెంచుతూ ఉంటుంది.ఈ డిజియంట్స్ నివాసముండే 'డేటా ఎర్త్ పోర్టల్' భౌతిక ప్రపంచాన్ని పోలిన విశాలమైన వర్చ్యువల్ ప్రపంచం (మల్టీప్లేయర్ గేమ్స్ తరహాలో) అన్నమాట.సైంటిస్టులు డిజియంట్స్ కి శిక్షణ ఇవ్వడానికి డేటా ఎర్త్ పోర్టల్ లో లాగ్ ఇన్ అవ్వగానే వాళ్ళ అవతార్ లతో ఆ ప్రపంచంలో భాగంగా మారతారు..అదే విధంగా ఈ వర్చ్యువల్ జీవులు మధ్య మధ్యలో వాళ్ళ ఓనర్లు తయారు చేసిన రోబోట్ శరీరాన్ని ధరించి వాస్తవ  ప్రపంచంలోకి వస్తూ-పోతూ ఉంటాయి..వర్చ్యువల్ ప్రపంచానికీ,భౌతిక ప్రపంచానికీ మధ్య ఉన్న తేడాలను చూసి ఆశ్చర్యానికి లోనవుతూంటాయి.వాటికి భౌతిక రూపం లేకపోయినా మనుషుల్లాగే అన్ని భావోద్వేగాలూ ఉండే విధంగా వాటి నిర్మాణం జరుగుతుంది.

ఇంతవరకూ బాగానే ఉన్నా,నిముష నిముషానికీ మారిపోయే సాఫ్ట్వేర్ రంగంలో ఈ 'నియో బ్లాస్ట్' రోబోట్ల స్థానంలో కొత్త Sophonce digients ప్రవేశిస్తాయి.అలాగే డేటా ఎర్త్ ను వెనక్కు నెట్టేస్తూ 'రియల్ స్పేస్ ప్లాట్ఫామ్' ఆవిర్భవిస్తుంది.కాలం చెల్లిపోయిన వెర్షన్స్ గా మిగిలిపోయిన మార్కో,పోలో,జాక్స్ లు అప్పటికే అన్నా,డెరెక్ లకు కుటుంబ సభ్యులైపోతారు..డిజియంట్స్ తో వాళ్ళకున్న అనుబంధం వల్ల వాళ్ళకి వాటిని సస్పెండ్ చెయ్యడానికి,అంటే మన భాషలో వాటిని చంపెయ్యడానికి మనస్కరించదు..పైపెచ్చు తమ చుట్టూ ఉన్న ప్రపంచం పట్ల ఆ డిజియంట్స్ కనబరిచే ఆసక్తీ,జీవితేచ్ఛ వాళ్ళ చేతుల్ని కట్టేస్తాయి..ఆ డిజియంట్స్ ని పోర్టింగ్ చెయ్యడం చాలా ఖర్చుతో కూడుకున్నపని కావడంతో వాళ్ళిద్దరూ ఎంత ప్రయత్నించినా ఏ కంపెనీ కూడా ముందుకు రాదు..చివరకు 'బైనరీ డిసైర్' అనే మరో కంపెనీ డిజియంట్స్ ను పోర్టింగ్ చెయ్యడానికి ముందుకు వచ్చినప్పటికీ వాటిని సెక్స్ వర్కర్స్ గా మార్చడానికి అంగీకరిస్తేనే పెట్టుబడి పెడతామని షరతు విధిస్తుంది.అప్పుడే ప్రపంచంలోకి కొత్తగా  రెక్కలు విప్పుకుంటున్న ఆ రోబోట్ల ను ఏం చెయ్యాలో తెలీని అనిశ్చితి నెలకొంటుంది.మరి మానవ సమాజంలో భాగంగా ఉండడానికి తయారైన ఆ డిజియంట్స్ భవిష్యత్తు ఏమైందనేది మిగతా కథ.

ఈ కథలో మనిషికీ,యంత్రానికీ మధ్య ఉన్న వ్యత్యాసాల్ని చెరిపేసే ప్రయత్నం చేశారు రచయిత..సర్ అలాన్ ట్యూరింగ్ ఆద్యుడిగా మొదలైన శాస్త్రసాంకేతిక విప్లవంలో రోబోట్స్ మానవసమాజంలో భాగం కావడానికి మరెంతకాలమో పట్టకపోవచ్చు..ఉదాహరణకు రోబోటిక్స్ అంటే ఆసక్తి ఉన్నవారందరికీ సోఫియా గురించి తెలిసే ఉంటుంది.సౌదీ అరేబియా పౌరసత్వంతో బాటుగా,క్రెడిట్ కార్డు కూడా పొందిన ఏకైక హ్యూమనోయిడ్ రోబోట్ అది.అంటే ఒక దేశపు పౌరుడికుండే సమస్త హక్కులూ,బాధ్యతలూ ఆ రోబోట్ కి కూడా ఉంటాయి.ఒకవేళ  సోఫియాకు తనవైన పొలిటికల్ వ్యూస్ ఉంటే,మనుషుల్లాగే స్వంత వ్యక్తిత్వం ఉండి స్వయం నిర్ణయాధికారం తీసుకుంటే ఆ పరిణామాన్ని మానవ సమాజం ధైర్యంగా,మనస్ఫూర్తిగా స్వాగతించగలదా ? ఈ పుస్తకం ముగింపులో ఆధునిక సమాజానికి ఇటువంటి పలు ప్రశ్నల్ని సంధిస్తూ,ఆర్టిఫిషియల్ ఇంటలిజెన్స్ తో అద్భుతాలు సృష్టిస్తూ,తాను దేవుణ్ణని రుజువు చేసుకోవాలని వెంపర్లాడుతున్న మనిషికి తన ప్రాముఖ్యతల్ని గుర్తెరిగి మసలుకోవడం అవసరమేమో అన్న దిశగా ఆలోచనలు రేకెత్తిస్తారు.

The virtual world acts as a global village for raising the digients, a social fabric into which a new category of pet is woven.

మనిషికీ,యంత్రానికీ మధ్య ఉన్న తేడాలు చెరిగిపోయే రోజు దగ్గర్లోనే ఉందని గుర్తుచేసే వివరణలు..
He's heartened to read this. The practice of treating conscious beings as if they were toys is all too prevalent, and it doesn't just happen to pets. Derek once attended a holiday party at his brother-in-law's house, and there was a couple there with an eight-year-old clone. He felt sorry for the boy every time he looked at him. The child was a walking bundle of neuroses, the result of growing up as a monument to his father's narcissism. Even a digient deserves more respect than that.

డిజియంట్స్ ను వినియోగదారుల చేతుల్లో పెట్టినప్పుడు ముందు జాగ్రత్త చర్యగా వాటికి భౌతికంగా బాధ కలగకుండా చూసుకునే 'పెయిన్ సర్క్యూట్ బ్రేకర్స్' అమరిక ఉన్నప్పటికీ,మానవ సహజమైన నిర్లక్ష్యం నుండి కాపాడే వ్యస్థ లేదని శాస్త్రవేత్తలు భావించే సందర్భం..
Blue Gamma has done what it can to minimize abuses; all the Neuroblast digients are equipped with pain circuit-breakers, which renders them immune to torture and thus unappealing to sadists. Unfortunately,there's no way to protect the digients from things like simple neglect.

"People always say that we're evolved to want babies, and I used to think that was a bunch of crap, but not anymore." Robyn's facial expression is one of transport; she's no longer speaking to Ana exactly. "Cats, dogs, digients, they're all just substitutes for what we're supposed to be caring for. Eventually you start to understand what a baby means, what it really means, and everything changes. And then you realize that all the feelings you had before weren't—" Robyn stops herself. "I mean, for me, it just put things in perspective."

The private Data Earth resembles: a ghost town the size of a planet. There are vast expanses of minutely-detailed terrain to wander around in, but no one to talk to except for the tutors who come in to give lessons. There are dungeons without quests, malls without businesses, stadiums without sporting events; it's the digital equivalent of a post-apocalyptic landscape.

Jax is good at asking the tough questions. "The mice were the test suites," Ana admits. "But that's because no one has the source code to organic brains, so they can't write test suites that are simpler than real mice. We have the source code for Neuroblast, so we don't have that problem."

The avatars we'd give them would be humanoid, but not human. You see, we're not trying to duplicate the experience of sex with a human being; we want to provide non-human partners that are charming, affectionate, and genuinely enthusiastic about sex. Binary Desire believes this is a new sexual frontier.

The technology has undoubtedly improved since then, but it's still an impoverished medium for intimacy.

The years she spent raising Jax didn't just make him fun to talk to, didn't just provide him with hobbies and a sense of humor. It was what gave him all the attributes Exponential was looking for: fluency at navigating the real world, creativity at solving new problems, judgment you could entrust an important decision to. Every quality that made a person more valuable than a database was a product of experience.
